Quilts of Valour Australia has experienced a successful year, marked by numerous quilt awards presented throughout the nation. Our profound thanks go to all our supporters who have contributed to this achievement. Our reach has expanded significantly, and we are proud to now have over 100 coordinators and representatives covering all Australian States and Territories. We are privileged to see our quilts provide comfort and recognition to Defence personnel, veterans, and the immediate families of the fallen.
The organization extends its sincerest gratitude to Wyn Roper, who is stepping down after many years of dedicated service as President. Since assuming the role in 2014, Wyn has played an important role in the organization’s growth and success. We are pleased to announce that she will continue to serve on our committee, providing mentorship and guidance during this transition.
We are pleased to formally introduce Karen Black as our new President. Karen, a talented quilt maker, brings both skill and a personal commitment to our mission, as the wife of a Vietnam veteran.

Reflecting on a decade of dedication
As I conclude my more than ten-year journey as President of Quilts of Valour Australia (QOVA), I want to express my deepest thanks. I have decided not to stand for the role again but will happily continue my involvement on the committee.
This past year has been another success, with more quilts awarded across Australia, made possible by the unwavering support of our quilt makers and representatives. It is incredibly rewarding to hear stories of the quilt presentations. Just recently, I received a call from a woman whose husband, a quilt recipient, was so touched that he wanted to make a donation. His quilt is proudly displayed in his nursing home room, and it is a wonderful talking point for all his visitors.
Our quilt makers are the heart of QOVA, continuing to produce magnificent quilts both individually and through their patchwork groups. We are also grateful for the high-quality fabric donations we receive, which are diligently managed by our founder and secretary, Helen. The generosity of our long-arm quilters, who volunteer their time for edge-to-edge quilting, is also indispensable.
My thanks also go to our many representatives in every state, who work tirelessly to ensure quilts are awarded to the deserving veterans recommended to them. Together, and with the help of those who spread the word about QOVA, we continue to grow. We also remain profoundly grateful for all monetary and fabric donations, big and small, that are essential to our survival.
Finally, I must offer a special and sincere thank you to Helen Comport for her tireless and enormous workload as our secretary. Her dedication ensures QOVA’s continued success and survival.
It has been an honour to serve QOVA, and I have greatly enjoyed the experience of giving talks and presenting quilts. Above all, I am thankful for the opportunity to meet so many Australian Defence Force veterans.
